The Topeka Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 2119 SW Gage Blvd. shortly before midnight on Tuesday.
The Fire Department arrived on scene and reported smoke visible from the structure. Further investigation by fire crews revealed that fire was located above the ceilings and within the attic spaces of the structure. An attack on the fire was initiated and the fire was extinguished, keeping it contained to the structure of fire origin. Smoke and water damage was noted throughout the remaining portions of the structure.
The business had closed for the night, but was still occupied by employees. Upon discovery of smoke within the structure, the employees were able to exit the structure without incident and notify 911.
A Topeka Fire Department Investigation's Unit responded to this incident to determine the origin and the cause for the fire. A preliminary investigation suggests the cause to likely be accidental.
Damage was placed at $150,000.
