Friday the 13th is often thought of a day for bad luck...but today is anything but for those receiving the benefits of an annual event in Topeka.
Friday is the "Nancy Perry Day of Caring". It kicked off at the Expocentre grounds with a breakfast and speakers...includiong Nancy Perry...who led the United Way of Topeka for 24 years. The day was named in her honor six years ago when she announced her retirement.
After the breakfast, volunteers from more than 40 businesses and organizations fanned across the city to work on various projects.
The Kansas State Wildcats knocked off the South Dakota Coyotes 64-62 on Tuesday night.
Hayden and Holton clashed in a battle of 4A schools, while Topeka High hosted Topeka West in a girls matchup.
Kansas committed 24 turnovers and fell behind by 18 points in the first half in Tuesday's loss at Florida.
