Forrest Richardson, president of the KU Young Democrats, issued this statement upon learning that Governor Sam Brownback will in fact visit the University of Kansas as part of his statewide higher education tour:
"University of Kansas students and their families are being asked to pay the price for Governor Brownback's tax break giveaways to billionaires. This higher education tour is nothing more than a PR stunt by the governor to hide the fact that education funding is in jeopardy because of his historically bad tax plan."
"KU students have seen their tuition increase 147% in the past ten years because of continued reductions in state funding. Governor Brownback had an opportunity to help middle-class Kansas families by restoring higher education funding. He failed to do so, choosing instead to give billions in tax breaks to the very richest Kansans and special interests. Kansas student and families need to stand up and tell Governor Brownback to repeal the worst tax bill in the country and protect our universities."
