A long time Topeka High School police officer was honored Tuesday.
Sergeant Mike Homan got a standing ovation when he walked on stage in the auditorium for a retirement ceremony.
Homan has served as a police officer at Topeka High for 35 years.
Head of USD 501 security, Ron Brown presented Homan with a medal, along with his badge and gun to keep as a memento.
Homan says he was surprised by today's ceremony.
He says he's going to spend his retirement traveling, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He also expects to return to cheer on students in football and basketball games.
