A new project kicked off Friday morning with two murals planned for the Oakland neighborhood.
Arts Connect Inc., in collaboration with the Topeka Police Department, Safe Streets Coalition and Downtown Topeka Inc., kicked off the "Topeka Mural Project" by picking up donated supplies from Lowe's.
The first two murals of the project will be on a building on NE Seward Ave. in Oakland.
The mural will be created by artists Jamie Colon and Maria Guzman.
Arts Connect says that the murals should be finished before the Fiesta Mexicana in July.
Colon's design features a portrait of his grandparents and a cupid, while Guzman's design is called ‘Oakland Bird' and depicts a scene with two birds.
