Construction has begun on a heavily-traveled street in southwest Topeka.
On Monday morning, the City of Topeka shut down all traffic on SW 21st Street from just west of West Ridge Mall to just east of Urish Road.
The $2.8 million project will widen the stretch of road from two to five lanes.
Bettis Asphalt and Construction is in charge of the work.
It's scheduled to be completed in mid-November.
